In the early 1980s, when the British Virgin Islands Company (BVI IBC) was launched as an offshore vehicle, and all of those involved were confident of total success. However, even the most optimistic of the group of founders would not have been able to imagine the surprising growth the jurisdiction has accomplished in this extremely competitive offshore market. The jurisdiction has been the longtime holder of the coveted position of the leading offshore registry for international business companies and within a generation the economy of the BVI has risen to the extent that the current income per capita is approximately US$40,000 per annum. As a result of the offshore financial services that are provided, the BVI now one of the most financially stable places on the planet. The BVI is the leading jurisdiction for offshore company registrations, with over 750,000 companies currently registered in the BVI since 1984. This is more completed incorporations than any other jurisdiction thus far, and the total incorporations for 2009 should be similar if not higher than those from2008, which reported that over 65,000 new BVI Business Companies registered in total. Many offshore legal services providers have stated that this is a direct result of innovative and progressive legislation as well as commercial approach to corporate governance and regulation has been the reason for such success. Most offshore legal services providers as well as legal tax deferral consultants would probably be in agreement that all of these factors have resulted in a blueprint of success that has made the BVI the premier offshore jurisdiction it is today. Most people in the BVI recognize that true success also relies on being able to react swiftly to shifting conditions. In order to do so, quite a few pieces of legislation in the BVI have been reviewed and revised to guarantee that they are appropriate, efficient and attractive to potential investors. The results of such well thought legislation is the modern and progressive laws based on entrenched ideologies, reflecting the present financial state. In a nutshell we can see the British Virgin Islands Company is an innovative choice for offshore incorporation.
